Academic VS Public Servant

2020-Ongoing | Reflections on practice in different sectors
Series of illustrations & stories, London, UK | twitter thread

In 2019, I joined the public sector through the Public Practice programme, which aims to place build environment experts into local authorities. This followed, directly after finished my PhD and spending almost 8 years mostly in academia. So, it was not long before I started realising key differences, but also common threads between the two sectors. From expectations in deliverables and decision making, down to perspective, communications and engagement with the public, there was a lot to compare. I thought it would be a good idea to start a visual diary for these reflections and to document them along the way. Even though this diary started from a feeling of not belonging to either sector, it has started becoming a great outlet of me reflecting into different sectors and my practice within them.
